Plants, Pints & Good Times: Our Sunday Swap Was a Whole Vibe

A recap of our May event and what's to come in August!

Our first Rooted in Broward x Laser Wolf: Sunday Service Plant Swap was an undeniable success — and it’s all thanks to the incredible support from you, our plant-loving community.

From start to finish, the day was filled with positive energy, unique greenery, and a vibrant crowd of collectors, hobbyists, and curious newcomers. The turnout exceeded our expectations, and our vendors felt the love — many reporting impressive sales and amazing connections.

Recapping the Day: With Success Comes Growing Pains

Our featured vendors showed up with everything from rare and exotic plants to handmade pots and tropical plumerias that sparked plenty of plant envy. The local response was incredible. Your support for small businesses was felt deeply and made a meaningful impact.

Huge thanks to Rebecca and Tin from Garden of Shangrila (IG: @vgarden_of_shangrila) and Pablo of Aroid Vibes Only (IG: @aroidvibesonly) for your incredibly generous raffle donations!

Of course, no event is perfect, and we're learning as we grow. One takeaway from this first run is to better define a clearly marked "Free Table" toward the end of the event. This will help avoid any accidental mix-ups — because no one wants their recent purchase or plan accidentally knicked. We are truly sorry if anyone experiences this and we will do our best to avoid this in the future and learn. Shout out to Daniel (IG: @daniels_backyard) for your grace and understanding. Despite the hiccup, the mood remained high, full of laughs, conversation, and excitement.

The Swap That Turned Sunday Into a Celebration

Laser Wolf provided the perfect backdrop for the day, offering cold drinks, vinyl tunes, amazing food from Souper Samurai (IG: @SouperSamurai), and ample shaded space to cool off and connect. The raffles and auctions were AMAZING, raising funds and bringing attention to some amazing local plant growers. The energy of the event was undeniable — it was truly a plant party.

A huge part of that atmosphere came from our MC, Y.K. Hamilton (IG: @y.k.hamilton), who truly brought the swap to life. His energy during the raffles kept the crowd pumped and ready to dance, and we’re thrilled to announce he’ll be back for the next event!

Our favorite familiar faces from Laser Wolf will be back to host and serve: Chris Bellus, Jordan Bellus, and your favorite bartender Cam (IG: @camcamthestoutman). Together, they helped create the laid-back, welcoming vibe that made the event such a success — and they’ll be doing it all again at our next swap.

Spotlight on Kathy Scott: Honoring Her Roots

Looking ahead to our next event, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on Kathy Scott's Gemini Gardens' PlantART, one of our long-standing organizers and a major contributor to Rooted in Broward’s growth. Over the past four years, Kathy has donated her time, talent, and stunning plants to countless raffles and auctions. Her creative spirit and generous heart have helped shape this community.

This time, she’ll be stepping into a new role as a featured vendor, offering her handmade botanical art and custom woodwork pieces. We are thrilled to showcase her work and thank her for being one of the roots that keeps this community grounded and thriving.

What’s Next: More Vendors, New Energy — and an Epic Food Collab

Our next event will feature:

  • Five exclusive plant vendors

  • Two handpicked community vendors

  • A special feature booth for Kathy Scott's Gemini Gardens' PlantART

  • New raffles, fresh auction items, and thoughtful vendor selections

And the big bonus: Kaminari Ramen (IG: kaminariramen) will be our featured food truck! This Fort Lauderdale local legend, best known for his flavorful, soulful ramen, will be creating a special menu just for our plant-loving community. Takeshi and Melody will be serving up the goods — and trust us, this is one swap you won’t want to miss.

The plant swap starts at 2 PM at Laser Wolf — located at 901 Progresso Dr, Suite 101, Fort Lauderdale. As always, the event is free to attend and open to the public. Bring sunblock, a friend, and your love for plants (and amazing food), and come spend a Sunday filled with great vibes and greenery.

We're committed to refining this experience, keeping the heart of the plant swap intact while giving you new ways to engage, support, and grow. Stay connected with us on Instagram @rootedinbroward and @laser_wolf for updates, vendor previews, and behind-the-scenes content.

Thank you for helping make Rooted in Broward more than just an event. It's a community - and it keeps getting better with every gathering.
